The windows in our houses and apartments provide passive air exchange, and are sources of natural light, ultraviolet radiation. They are designed to provide protection from street noise, dust and precipitation. Thanks to them, we can communicate with the outside world, contemplate nature and feel the vital rhythm of our society.
Quality windows delight with their aesthetics, durability and comfort. It is no coincidence that it was metal-plastic windows that replaced wooden ones, and immediately gained a reputation for technological products. The plastic is durable and practical, and the fittings of the PVC windows can be customized and adjusted as you wish. Only how to do it right and why not everyone knows.

Signs of improper window adjustment

The disadvantages of disturbed indoor air exchange are usually visible to the naked eye. They can be combined in the following list:
  • Dampness on the slopes, especially in their lower part - can lead to the formation of mold and fungus;
  • Misting of double-glazed windows and condensation on the frame and window sill;
  • Damp walls and ceiling areas;
  • Freezing of the lower part of the sash.

What is the winter-summer lock adjustment for?

According to SanPiN standards, the temperature in residential premises should be in the range of 18-25 ° C. And if in the summer we ventilate the room and open the windows to cool it a little, then in winter, on the contrary, we try to restrain heat loss. This will help us and the adjustment of locks "winter-summer".
The casement clip on metal-plastic windows determines the degree of passive ventilation. In their accessories, special locking mechanisms are responsible for this - trunnions. These are such moving elements in the form of round or oval rollers, the axial basis of which is a tuning screw. The center is shifted, so it is called an eccentric. The closer the trunnion is to the reciprocal level, the stronger the clamp is carried out with the sash completely closed.

How it works?

Winter-summer windows are adjusted in the following order:
We find a small risk mark on the lock in the trunnion area.

Using a suitable wrench (hexagon or asterisk), slightly turn the pin screw clockwise (towards the room). In this way, the degree to which the sash is pressed against the frame changes.

We perform the same procedure with pins on the lock fittings around the entire perimeter of the sash. Usually there are 5-7 pcs. Their location is easy to determine by the reciprocal levels on the frame.

Practical tips

You can check the adjustment in a simple, old-fashioned way: hold a lighted candle along the perimeter of the sash, the flame of which will indicate any imperfections and heat loss from window gaps.
In some types of accessories for PVC windows, oval trunnions are present, which usually do not have a tuning screw. The masters have a special key with an opening for the oval to configure them, but it’s hard to get it. In this situation, ordinary pliers will help out. Wrap them with any rag so as not to leave any burrs on the metal, and feel free to adjust their position.
Do not forget about the rubber seal, which dries out and becomes tough over time. Sometimes, because of it, the winter setting leads to quick wear and breakage of the lock, because to close the sash tightly in winter you need to make an effort. To avoid this, the replacement seal can be replaced by yourself, and the fixed one can be cleaned of debris, dust and lubricated with specialized agents.
With the onset of heat and an increase in temperature outside the window, you can return all the settings to their place, allowing fresh air to freely enter the room. Then it is worth paying attention to the lubrication of the chassis of the locks.
Remember that timely maintenance of the castle fittings will maintain its performance for many years, because the minimum operational period of PVC windows is 50 years!
