Embroidery Framing

Each embroiderer dreams of seeing her work in a decent frame. It is not always possible to buy a finished frame, since an embroidered picture usually turns out to be of a non-standard size. And ordering in a baguette workshop is an expensive pleasure. I have to look for other options. A little imagination, and your embroidery will have the most chic setting.
For the creative process you need:
  • embroidered picture;
  • a large piece of cardboard (you can take the packaging from any major purchase: refrigerator, cabinet);
  • stationery knife;
  • ruler, pencil;
  • a skein of double-sided tape;
  • a sheet of wrapping paper (or a piece of wallpaper, fabric), suitable in color;
  • a small piece of tape.

Prepare the frame. It consists of 2 parts: the base on which the embroidery will be glued and the upper part (the frame itself). After measuring the width and length of the embroidery, we add 5 cm to each side. For example, the size of embroidery is 15x20 cm, therefore, the size of the frame will be 25x30. We mark the cardboard and use a clerical knife to cut it out. This is the basis.

Now prepare the top. It will be exactly the same size as the base, only the middle needs to be cut, leaving a 5 cm wide outline.

We try on embroidery with a frame, placing the latter exactly in the middle. Glue tape on the base and glue the embroidery.

Getting to the most crucial moment: the design of the upper part of the frame. To the size of the base add 5-6 cm on each side, mark the inside of the wrapping paper and cut it out. Apply scotch tape to the frame and stick the frame exactly in the center of the wrapping paper. Make another markup on paper: step back from the frame to the center of 5-6 cm, draw and cut the middle.

Apply scotch tape to the other side of the frame. Make cuts at the corners of the package, carefully wrap the package in and glue it.

Final stage. Apply scotch tape along the edges of the embroidery. Put the upper part of the frame on the base with embroidery, press firmly.

Flip the job face down. Apply scotch tape along the edge of the back of the base, wrap the edges of the packaging and glue it. First we wrap the long sides.

Then wrap and glue the remaining 2 sides.

The result exceeds our modest expectations!
If desired, you can make a frame with a mat. It will take a little more time and effort, but the result will be stunning. To do this, you need to choose a background for embroidery (the material may be the same wrapping paper, wallpaper or fabric, but a different color). Usually it is lighter than embroidery, but different options are possible. The width of the passe-partout can also be different, but not less than 2 cm. The process of creating a frame with a passe-partout is the same as the usual frame. Only between the embroidery glued to the base and the upper part of the frame with double-sided tape is attached passe-partout.

If it seems to you that something is missing, rhinestones, decorative buttons or other jewelry can be glued along the edge of the mat.
Only a little remained: on the inside of the work at the top, mark the middle, and with adhesive tape stick a ribbon - a loop on which the picture will hang on the wall.
