If you have an old pipe gas key in your garage or workshop unnecessarily, you can use it to make a blade. For this homemade product, you will need to use not the entire tool, but only its fixed part ("shorty" with a sponge).

The main stages of work

The first step is to preheat the workpiece red, level the work surface, and then give it the desired shape, having worked a little with a sledgehammer (or heavy hammer) on the blacksmith's table. Also, using a round chisel, you need to make two large holes - in the middle and at the end of the handle.
Next, it will be necessary to process the blade on a grinding machine. This process is short-lived, but there is no rush here. The end result of all work and the appearance of the finished product directly depend on the quality of the machining. First, the blade is polished, and then the handle.

At the next stage, the edge of the blade is formed and its primary sharpening is performed. Then the blade must be hardened by heating it red and lowering it into a container with used oil. After that, the surface finish of the knife is performed.

To summarize

The blade from the old gas pipe wrench is of very good quality, and thanks to the excellent balancing, it can be used for throwing. For a detailed process of manufacturing and using this knife, see the video on our website.
