Threaded rivets are an alternative fastener - they are often used in cases where it is not possible to install standard fasteners with nuts (due to the fact that there is no direct access to the back of the hole). The rivets themselves are a steel hollow cylinder with an internal thread.
To make this home-made tool you will need a power drill and an old straightening hammer with replaceable rubber or plastic heads. This tool is used to work with soft materials. First of all, it is necessary to unscrew the rubber strikers on both sides, and then drill a through hole in the center of the steel bar.
If you do not have such a straightening hammer, then you can figure out a similar tool from improvised materials - for example, from steel round pipes and a pair of bearings. Then it remains only to choose a bolt of suitable diameter with a washer that is inserted into the hole. Nuts in this case do not need to be used - the bolt must rotate freely. The result is a simple device for threaded rivets.
The principle of work of a homemade device
A nozzle-head is inserted into the drill cartridge under the cap of the bolt, and a threaded rivet is screwed onto the stud. Rotating the bolt counterclockwise, the lower part of the threaded rivet is wrinkled and squeezes the hole. The detailed manufacturing process of this homemade device, see the video on the site.
