Smooth stones are often used to make some decorative crafts. However, sometimes very hard rocks come across, and the question arises: how can they be drilled.

The fact is that a conventional concrete drill is not able to drill a hole in such stones, so the author decided to use a 6 mm diameter diamond drill for this (it is also called a diamond crown).

Moreover, in the process of drilling with a diamond drill there are some features that must be taken into account.

Features of stone drilling

If you immediately begin to drill with such a drill vertically, then you will not succeed - the drill will simply divert constantly to the side. Therefore, when using a diamond drill, stone drilling must begin at an angle of 45 degrees.

We try to cling to the stone with the edge of the drill, “biting” into it, and then we carefully align the drill and begin to drill vertically.

Drilling holes in hard stone is best at high speeds (approximately 1300-1500 revolutions). And one more important point - it is necessary to drill in a shock-free mode.

You can see a detailed overview of stone drilling using a tubular diamond drill in the video on our website.
