In this review, the master shows a detailed process for making a wooden vise for use in a home workshop. They are perfect for working with wood and plywood blanks.

The first step is to saw off four pieces of wood of the same size. Of these, the author will make the movable and motionless jaws of a vice.

We glue two blanks together. Then you will need to make rectangular holes in them. This can be done using a jigsaw or a hand milling cutter.

We recommend reading: how to make a manual milling cutter from an electric drill.

The hole in the fixed sponge should be through, and in the movable sponge, it should be blind. A guide from a wooden bar will be inserted into it and abut.

The main stages of work

At the next stage, it will be necessary to give the clamping jaws the desired shape, and process them on a grinding machine.

After that, you will need to make “steps” in the upper part of the clamping jaws so that you can then install removable pads.

Next, we make the base of the vise, to which we fix the fixed sponge. First, you need to drill a hole in it and press in the elongated nut.

Then we make and glue the remaining parts. You will also need to make a knob and fasten it to the end of the lead screw.

In the end, it remains only to make wooden linings and screw them to the jaws. After that, we cover all the parts with varnish or mineral oil, and you can proceed to the final assembly.
