Simple metal detector

I can undoubtedly say that this is the simplest metal detector of all that I have seen. Which is based on only one chip TDA0161. You will not need to program anything - just compile it. Moreover, its huge difference is that during operation it does not make any sounds, unlike the metal detector on the NE555 chip, which initially squeaks unpleasantly and you need to guess the found metal by tonality.

In this scheme, the buzzer starts beeping only when it detects metal. Chip TDA0161 is a specialized industrial version for induction sensors. And it mainly builds metal detectors for production, giving a signal when the metal approaches the induction sensor.
You can purchase such a microcircuit at - TDA0161 aliexpress.com
It costs not much and is quite accessible to everyone.

Here is a simple metal detector circuit

Metal Detector Features

  • Chip power supply voltage: from 3.5 to 15V
  • Generator frequency: 8-10 kHz
  • Current consumption: 8-12 mA in alarm mode. In the search state, approximately 1 mA.
  • Operating temperature: -55 to +100 degrees Celsius

The metal detector is not only very economical, but also very unpretentious.
For power, a battery from an old cell phone is good.
Coil: 140-150 turns. The diameter of the coil is 5-6 cm. It can be converted to a larger diameter coil.

Sensitivity will depend directly on the size of the search coil.
In the scheme, I use both light and sound alarms. You can choose one if you want. Buzzer with internal generator.
Thanks to this simple design, you can make a pocket metal detector or a large metal detector, depending on what you need more.

The metal detector after assembly works immediately and does not need settings, except by setting the threshold for operation with a variable resistor. Well this is the standard procedure for a metal detector.
So friends, pack up the necessary thing and, as they say, fit in the household. For example, to search for electrical wiring in the wall, even though nails in a log ...
