With this home-made tool, you can quickly chop aluminum or copper wire of different thicknesses into pieces of the desired length. You can, of course, bite off the wire with ordinary wire cutters, but this is not always convenient, and your hands will get tired (especially if you need to chop a large number of "shorties").
The main stages of work
It is necessary to cut identical segments from a steel plate with a thickness of about 6-8 mm by a length of 14 cm and a width of 6 cm. Then, using a grinder, we cut out two blanks for cutting the wire from them. We drill one hole in the resulting blanks, and then we clean the surface with a grinding disc.
We connect both parts with a bolt and nut, clamp in a vice and grinder, giving the necessary shape. Then we finish the workpiece on emery. Then, using an angle grinder, we make three shallow “grooves” in the central part - for different wire diameters.
Hardening and assembly
We weld a handle made of a steel pipe to one of the workpieces (before welding, the edge of the pipe needs to be slightly flattened). The length of the handle is at your discretion, but preferably not less than a meter, so that the lever is good. The second workpiece is welded to the plate, the teeth are heated with a gas burner red-hot and quenched in oil.
