If you need to clean small metal parts at home (pieces of a plate, corners, bushings, couplings, etc.), it is not at all necessary to “scrub” them to a shine with a grinder with a petal wheel or with a belt grinder. Moreover, it is not very convenient and noisy.

To clean metal from traces of corrosion, you can use an alternative option - a "passive" sandblasting machine, made with your own hands from improvised materials. As a cleaning agent, quartz sand or a special abrasive powder can be used.

This will require a steel pudding baking dish and an old grinder with a broken platform. In this case, it is used as a source of vibration. To make the frame to secure the sandblasting machine, use wooden planks or pieces of plywood.

The main stages of work

In a broken platform of the grinding machine, two through holes on each side must be made. They will be inserted segments of the stud. Then, from wooden planks, screws and wood glue, we assemble a wooden frame.

Then we take another plank, drill a hole in it in the middle and insert a threaded sleeve with a press washer. We twist the hairpin, put on top a steel pudding baking dish and fix it with a wooden “cork” and a wing nut.

At the last stage of work, we connect all the elements into a single design. The resulting passive home-made sandblasting apparatus must be securely fixed to the table or other flat surface using bolts or clamps.
