Building a reliable and beautiful fence is not an easy event. Save on elements and effectively beat the fence posts by creating concrete caps with your own hands.

In this review, the author shares the idea of how easy it is to make a durable cap with a stone texture (using washed concrete technology).

The composition of the mixture:

  • 4.5 kg of fine gravel
  • 1.5 kg of cement
  • 1.5 kg sifted river sand
  • 1 glass of hydroplasticizer

You will need quite a bit of water, since we will work with a semi-dry composition. Add it gradually so as not to make the mixture too liquid.

If you want to give the product any color, add dye. Next, you need to prepare the forms. Lubricate them with any oil, so that later the cement easily lags behind the walls.

The main stages of work

Put the mixture with a slide and carefully tamp. First you need to make an effort. As large particles are deposited downward, the composition from above will become more fluid and malleable. Then you can smooth it out without any problems.

Next, treat the caps on a vibrating table, and leave to dry for about 12-16 hours.

After the caps have hardened, you need to rinse them with a high pressure washer, revealing the structure of the stone.

Thus, you will wash off the top layer of sand and cement, leaving a gravel surface. Do not make too high a pressure so as not to wash gravel.

The resulting products are very strong and durable. They for many years retain the decorative appearance. Another big plus is simplicity.

Ordinary concrete caps without errors are more difficult to make. After all, on a smooth surface, all bubbles, irregularities in shape or chips will be visible. The uneven gravel texture comes out perfect even from the hands of an inexperienced craftsman.
