A TAP subscriber splitter is a mounting element used to create branches from one TV line to several consumers, while maintaining a pass-through signal. With it, the television signal from the main cable is divided between several apartments.

Decoding of the marking of the splitters

The digital marking used on the splitter housing allows you to determine its characteristics. The first digit indicates the number of possible branches, and the rest indicates the level of signal attenuation at the taps. For example, the 424F marking indicates that the coupler has 4 connectors for connecting subscribers, with each of them losing a signal by 24 dB. The letter in the marking says that the device uses an F-connector.

TAP has 2 connectors more than connected subscribers. One is used to enter the main cable, the second to exit without loss of signal strength, and the rest to connect subscribers. The cable leaving the splitter goes further to the next floor of the house, where it connects to another splitter.
Each connector on the instrument body is signed:
  • IN - entrance from the highway;
  • OUT - trunk output;
  • TAP - challenge for the subscriber.

Why do TAPs on different floors have a different resistance value

There are splitters with different signal loss. The lower this indicator, the clearer the picture on the TV. However, the splitters are installed in the trunk according to strict regulations. The closer to the antenna or amplifier, the greater should be the resistance. Thanks to this, all subscribers of the same trunk receive a signal of the same quality. If on the taps to the TVs in the first TAP there is too low resistance, the signal will not reach the consumers of the last coupler.

Why TAPs have a different number of subscription taps

The number of outputs is determined by the number of subscribers who need to be connected to the TV line. For example, if there are only 2 apartments on the staircase, then a splitter for 2 subscribers is used.

Many people think that each tap on the tap is for one TV only. Therefore, they can occupy 2-3 connectors to connect all the TVs in your apartment. In this case, the bill for telecommunication services will be considered at double or triple tariff. It is more correct to make a tap into the apartment from one TAP connector, and already at your place to divide it into the required number of branches for each TV.
