Now I will tell you about how to make the “Ionophone” with my own hands or how it was also called the “singing arc”. Actually from the names it is already possible to guess that the ionophone is a sound source. The sound in this device comes from a burning arc, the sound timbre changes with a change in the frequency of voltage generation. In the 50s of the last century, these devices found practical application, now there are many more effective alternatives to this device and they have forgotten about it, and we can assemble it only as a toy for interesting experiments.
Well, let's start with the scheme.
The basis of this circuit is the familiar NE555 integral timer (bought for 10 rubles). In our circuit, it serves as a rectangular pulse generator that is converted by a field effect transistor (MOSFET), I used IRFS630, it is desirable to use high voltage field-effect (drain-source) poles of about 100A in In this case, you can achieve a better effect. Besides the fact that this device was conceived as an ionophone, it can be used to power home-made plasma balls, it can also serve as a converter for powering LDS, and just for starting arcs. You can also connect a high voltage multiplier and get a spark discharge of about 3-4 cm (The multiplier is life threatening!)
Now it’s worth touching safety. The output of the transformer is very high voltage. It may not be a fatal defeat, but you will probably get a noticeable electric shock and a significant burn, so do not experiment. The arc also has a high temperature and can cause a fire.
