We welcome all lovers of Murok and Vasek!
We want to share a budget way how to please a pet. We bring to your attention such a thing, necessary in your house, as a claw-post.
It is unlikely that anyone doubts its necessity. The instinct of scratching in cats cannot be taken away. They like to scratch and do it during the game, when they stretch to mark the territory or leave a warning signal to their relatives. Their claws need regular sharpening, and cats sharpen them on suitable surfaces to remove worn, dead outer plates. Unfortunately, this behavior of pets often causes significant damage to furniture, walls, draperies and carpets.

How to deal with cat habits

The best tactic in the fight against scratching is not to try to stop the cat from scratching, but to teach it where and what to scratch. A great solution is to provide it with suitable, attractive surfaces and objects, such as a scratch post.

Our budget scratching post is made of cardboard.
This material was chosen for the following reasons:
  • accessibility (no need to splurge, you can put into business unnecessary boxes that are always at hand);
  • safety and environmental friendliness;
  • ease of processing;
  • cats like to shred cardboard / paper.

The scratch post shown in the photo is built into the cat's tree (also homemade). (2.jpg) Here is a step-by-step guide on how to make this scratching post, consisting of just 4 simple steps.

Materials and fixtures

For this project, you need only:
  • corrugated cardboard (used for the manufacture of packaging materials);
  • threaded rod;
  • 2 washers;
  • 2 nuts.

Tools required:
  • drill,
  • scissors,
  • spanner for nuts.

Cardboard circles

Draw circles on the cardboard, then use the scissors to cut them out.

Using a threaded rod, pierce the cardboard circle in the center. Then a second circle is threaded, a third, etc. This process can be automated as follows: install the threaded rod into the drill, turn it on and push the cardboard circles.

Cat Tree Installation

Drill 2 holes in the cat tree or in two pieces of wood where you are going to set the claw point. It can simply be fixed on some heavy, stable foundation.

Final stage

Put the scratching post in place and secure with the nuts. Pay special attention to the stability of the structure, because it will have to withstand any cat's emotions. Also correctly calculate the height of the column. It should be sufficient for the cat to be able to stretch to its full height.

Everything is ready! This is a convenient device for scratching claws. Fast and cheap. We hope your cat will like the new scratching place, and she will be happy to use it like a cat, which is shown in the photo.

This design can be updated without difficulty, as soon as this becomes necessary.

Where to place

Choose a place to place a claw-post where your pet is most often seen in such a destructive activity as damage to household property: near a chair, sofa, at the door, etc. To attract a cat’s attention to a gift, scent it with something attractive to its scent, such as catnip. You can hang toys on it.
